I finally feel like I have something to write about! Yay!
Jicama...Another thing to add to Ryan's allergies.
We arrived at the E.R. at 3:30pm (Wednesday) He told them his symptoms and they said it sounded like it was appendix related. To make a very long story, a little shorter...Ryan had an IV put in him so they could draw blood, and had a CT scan in the E.R. We hadn't heard anything from the nurses or doctors until about 7:30pm, when a nurse came in and said,
Not as excited anymore once he found out he has to have surgery...
So it all started last Friday, March 19. We had a Temple Reunion Night with our old singles ward at the Timpanogos Temple, so Ryan called in "sick" to work so he could go. So while we're in the Temple, Bea Twede (the wife of our bishop in the singles ward) told Ryan that he was going to get sick, just because he called in sick for work to go to the temple. Anyways...that's how it all began...
The next day, we had a little gathering with some friends to eat food and watch Friends. The food was great and Ryan ate a ton of it, especially the tacos. A little while after we ate, Ryan said,
"My throat feels a bit scratchy." (Of course, whenever he says that, it means, "I'm alergic to something"
So I started to think about what he ate that was different. I then realized that we never eat Jicama (niether does anyone else in the world) and figured that that was the culpret. Jicama seemed very similar to potatoes and when we looked it up later, we found that the other word for Jicama is "the Mexican potato".
Jicama...Another thing to add to Ryan's allergies.
Needless to say, Ryan was having an allergic reaction and got hopped up on Benadryl. We had to leave early because he was getting way sleepy and weirder than usual. So that was the start of things.
The next few days, he was still feeling sick and a little iffy.
On Tuesday, he came home from work and wasn't feeling good at all. He felt really bloated and could barely move. During the night, he couldn't really sleep and threw up and continued to feel terrible.
Wednesday morning came...and went. He still wasn't feeling good, but he started to get ready for work. I told him that he wasn't going to work and to go back to bed. About 30 minutes later, my Mom called me and we talked for a bit. I told her Ryan wasn't feeling good, especially on the right side of his lower stomach. She said to press down where it hurts slowly really deep, then release and see if he felt a sharp pain. Well...he felt pain while I was pushing in, and when I realeased, so I told him we should take him to the E.R. and that it probably had to do with his Appendix.
He's still Ryan...
We arrived at the E.R. at 3:30pm (Wednesday) He told them his symptoms and they said it sounded like it was appendix related. To make a very long story, a little shorter...Ryan had an IV put in him so they could draw blood, and had a CT scan in the E.R. We hadn't heard anything from the nurses or doctors until about 7:30pm, when a nurse came in and said,
"Well, here's an antibiotic and we're just waiting for a room."
All of us were like, uh, what room?
The nurse then said, "Um, no one has told you guys?"
We again said, "Uh, no?"
She then told us that they were waiting for a room in the Hospital because Ryan was going to have surgery to remove his appendix, because he had appendisidous (sp). Obviously it was something that we were surprised to find out, but what can you do?
So Ryan was moved to a more perminent room in the Hospital and at about 9:00pm, the surgeon came in to tell him that he would go into surgery in an hour or so and he might be released later that night.
Now, from Ryan's perspective, he wasn't very happy, 1-Because he was in pain, and 2- Because he wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything until after the surgery. So he was excited to be having surgery soon.
Since Ryan couldn't have water, to try to get rid of the "cotton mouth" he could put this disgusting minty thing in his mouth. He did not enjoy it.
Then 30 mins. later, the surgeon comes in again and says he has bad news...A guy just came into the E.R. from a motorcycle accident and had a compound elbow fracture and broken hands and stuff, and needed to get into the O.R. first.
Ryan wasn't very happy about it, but again, "what can you do?".
So the surgeon said that he would be staying overnight and would have surgery the next morning at 6:00am.
Lots more happened, that I won't include, cuz I'm already bored and I'm sure people won't read this, but whatev.
Ryan after coming out of surgery, he was not very happy.
The night was pretty restless in the hospital, but he got into surgery and out in about an hour and everything went perfect. Ryan then was able to drink something and gradually eat something. He was discharged at 2:00pm. All that is number two.
Ryan's Battle Scars. Three small cuts.
Three is not as dramatic, but kind of just a, "Seriously? Another thing to pay for and add to this chaotic last few days?"
Ryan and I had just dropped off a package at the post office for my friend Max, and pulled into WalMart to get Easter stuff. Right as we pull into a spot, our car goes...clunk, clunk, clunk. We then realize that we got a flat tire...yeah...fun.
So we walk into the tire area and ask if they have our tire size, which they don't carry. But we asked if they would help us put on our spare tire, because as you have read, Ryan had surgery yesterday and can in no way bend or lift anything. So the Walmart guys were nice and changed our spare at no cost and told us where we could go, which was only a few miles away.
We then went to GoodYear (Yes, we cheated on Sam and Big 0 Tires) and went to get some tires. We found that all of our tires were waaaay past the point of use, and that we needed 4 new tires. GoodYear needed to get the tires from their warehouse, so it would be longer than usual. So Ryan and I started walking around the Draper shopping area for about 2 hours, which got pretty exhausting. Anyways...that's number three.
Sorry if I have bored all of you, but Ryan wanted this all written down, so blame him :)
Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers while Ryan was in the hospital!
Should not call in sick for work unless we are really sick should we.
ReplyDeleteNo Worries!!! We forgive you for cheating on Sam! Hope all is better now! We love you guys!!!

I read the whole thing! We're glad everything is fine now:) Love you guys!
ReplyDeleteits still blowing my mind that technology is great enough that they can take out an entire appendix with just 3 little holes. i need to just look it up and then i will believe.
ReplyDeleteok ok ok, i did my research. its true. here a video. i chose one that is less graphic lol, because most people arent used to seeing stuff like this all the time like i do.

hahaha wow, thanks for that video link Jacie! I watched it and now I know exactly what happened.
ReplyDeleteWow! I knew that it was a tough couple of days, but I had no idea that it was that bad. We're all just glad that Ryan is still Ryan less an appendix. No one really needs those anyhow.
